As part of the Sucafina Group, Caring for People – one of our sustainability pillars – means creating a working environment where safety and well-being are part of everyday operations. At Beyers Koffie, this is reflected in continuous, hands-on work on the shop floor, where progress comes through daily attention, not one-off initiatives.
Last year, we shared how safety and health are managed across our operations, from day-to-day workflow checks to accident prevention and employee wellbeing. Here is a brief update on progress since.
Over the past year, we’ve seen steady progress. By the end of March 2025, we had reached 272 days without an accident resulting in lost workdays among our own staff. Equally, the incidence of serious accidents, those with a greater impact on people, has decreased.
What has also evolved is how we approach safety in practice day to day. We’ve successfully instilled the practice of raising issues as they appear, which allows us to react faster and address risks before they escalate. Instead of waiting for formal reviews, many of safety concerns are handled in real time through our internal reporting tools, keeping the process closely tied to operations.
This naturally led us to focus more on a broader concept: safety culture. In the past weeks, we have launched a company-wide program that involves everyone, from operational teams to senior management. The objective is to strengthen awareness, especially of unsafe situations and impulsive behavior and to make safety something people actively consider in their daily work.
Because in the end, safety is not only about machines, procedures or compliance. It’s about what we do, how we do it and how aware we are of the risks around us. It is something that sits with each of us every day.
There isn’t one single milestone that defines the past year. Progress is visible in a combination of smaller steps, fewer high-impact accidents, quicker reactions and more people engaged in identifying and resolving risks.
At Beyers, this remains an ongoing effort, built day by day through consistent attention and shared responsibility.
